Meet Pepita!

Introducing Pepita, my new foster kitty!

In rescue, we don’t always know the full backstory of every animal we meet. I typically take what is known, and make guesses to fill in the blanks. For Pepita, we were told she was a stray kitten. The finder believed she had previously been abused, and stated that she had a damaged eye.

When I first met Pepita, my first feeling was that of relief; she looked perfect! While her age is estimated to be around 6-months old, which is still kitten like, the fact that she’s not a tiny very young kitten gives her an improved prognosis. And just looking at her, I didn’t see anything wrong with either of her eyes. Her age and health status wasn’t what we expected, but this was a good thing!

Pepita passed her vet check with flying colors, no obvious issues. Hopefully she can be cleared for and get an appointment for spay surgery soon and then I think she will easily be adopted.

So, what’s her real backstory? While I can’t ever know for sure, my guess is that she belonged to someone. She was far too clean to have been living on her own outdoors, and she has a very distinct collar ring around her neck. Was she abused? Maybe, but I hope not I think her previous owner wasn’t able to care for her and she somehow ended up with me. In the end, the details don’t matter. She’s safe now, and that’s all that matters.
