Meeting Mama Josie

Adjustments.jpeg

If you’ve ever fostered a mama cat before, you know just how special they are. All cats are special of course, but mamas are different. They work so hard to take good care of their babies, often neglecting themselves with less grooming, less eating, and not playing (as much or at all).

Josie’s kittens have all been adopted and now I am finally getting to see her true personality, and she is wonderful! She is funny. She is affectionate and sweet. She is playful. She’s so many things and I feel honored to be a part of her journey.

After all of her kittens were adopted, Josie seemed sad in the foster room. She wandered around and cried. She wasn’t missing her babies, she was lonely. I had not previously tried to introduce her to my resident cats, but I figured it was worth a shot, and I am so glad that I did.

Josie made friends with my cats immediately! She instinctively knew how to interact with them so she didn’t appear threatening. My residents are accustomed to meeting fosters, but that doesn’t mean they always get along, particularly with my Ivy cat. And yet, even Ivy accepted her (not friends mind you, but high tolerance). Josie only has to be separated now for meal time, and she is so much happier. I hope her forever friend has a cat friend waiting for her.
